Cape Town Safari

If you visit South Africa do not miss the opportunity to experience a proper African safari.  You can do a safari in one day but we recommend that you spend at least one night in a national part or a game lodge.  The sounds, the smell and the feel of the open plains with the animals around you is just an unforgettable experience.  Book a night drive with an experienced game ranger.

Accommodation in campsites within the national parks in South Africa are notably higher than outside but if you are on a low budget set some cash aside and allow yourself to stay in the park. You will not regret it. The campsites are usually well furnished so you can prepare your own food.  Buy your food upfront in the local store.

South African National Parks allow visitors to roam freely in their own vehicles as long as they do keep to the tar- or sandroads and do not leave their vehicles.  Private reserves mostly provide visitors with a guide and a 4x4 vehicle.

Addo Elephant National Park represents the ultimate safari experience. Addo Elephant is home to the Big 5 animals - elephants, rhinos, lions, buffalos and leopards - but also to a vast variety of other mammals, birds and plants.  The park is situated approximately 800 km east of Cape Town and less than one hour drive north of Port Elisabeth.  The journey from Cape Town to Addo Elephant NP leads along the world famous Garden Route set into breathtaking scenery with many interesting tourist attractions along the way such as Hermanus, top place in the world for watching whales, Cape Agiulhas, the most southern tip of the African continent or the Tsitsikama National Park.

You can join organised safari drives with the a park ranger or drive through the park in your own vehicle.  There are plenty of sand roads in the park.  We recommend to rent a 4x4 vehicle if you decide to visit the park on your own.

Accommodation is available in multiple places around the park but if you want to experience truly African safari, book you chalet or safari tent inside the park.  You will see, hear, feel and smell animals literally within the reach of your hand.  Remember to buy food for your braai (BBQ), all campsites are furnished for visitors' cooking.  There are three campsites within the park.  Due to its increasing popularity, bookings must be made well in advance, especially if you plan to plan your visit during the busy season with its peak in December.
